A locally famous Niagara Falls man known as “The Water Guy” has died after being assaulted last week. 52-year-old Tony Paonwessa was the victim of a serious assault with a weapon on Tuesday January 29 at his home in the area of Huggins St and Gainsborough Ave.
The father of three, who was well known for delivering water to residents of Niagara was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Paonessa passed away on Friday February 1 after an alleged altercation with a 17-year-old make who was known to him. According to the GoFundMe page that was set up, the young male was a kid that the family was fostering at the time. The Niagara Regional Police have charged the youth with second degree murder. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the name of the youth can NOT be released.
The family of Paonesse has set up a GoFundMe page where you can assist the family in getting through a rough time and helping with some expenses as they mourn the loss of highly loved family man. At this time, it marks the third homicide in Niagara of 2019 after a murder in Grimsby on Friday morning which left a 31-year-old woman dead and a ST Catharines homicide back in January.
