Hamilton Police have arrested a pair of thieves after they thwarted the investigation. A Hamilton man and woman were located within 1.5 hours at a nearby residence. Both parties are scheduled to appear in court on May 9th 2019.
On Tuesday April 9th 2019, shortly before noon, Hamilton Police responded to a call for a theft that had just occurred at the LCBO located at 1149 Barton St. East. The Hamilton police officers were provided with the details. While be accompanied by a female, a male was observed selecting an alcohol beverage from a shelf. The male then proceeded to walk through the store to a secluded area where he then proceeded to conceal the drink under his clothing. The parties were approached by the staff but still continued to exit the building while making no attempt to pay for it.
Through the investigation, Hamilton police were able to identify an apartment building in the area as a possible hiding spot for the two suspects. This said complex was equipped with video surveillance which the police were able to review. Two people matching the exact descriptions were captured on camera then police were able to establish a unit within the building to check for them.
A 23-year-old male and a 27-year-old female, both from Hamilton were found in the unit. They were arrested on scene and taken into police custody. Police have since learned that the male party was currently bound to a probation order. He was informed of additional charges in the relation to the court-ordered conditions. They have both since been released and are scheduled to appear in court on May 9th 2019. Only the male was charged in relation to this incident and his charges include:
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000
- Failure to Comply with Probation (x2)
