All Meridian Credit Union locations have been closed, including retail branches and head office buildings.
All employees were notified at noon, with a public tweet going out shortly afterwards.
Online services are still up and running but no details have been released on why offices were closed.
Meridian has 90 branches across Ontario, 17 in Niagara.
UPDATE: Meridian has released a statement following their closures today:
“Meridian has received a physical security threat and, as always, the safety of employees and members is our number one concern. As a result, we have closed all Meridian and motusbank offices, branches and business banking centres today. All employees were asked to immediately leave their locations.
We are cooperating with the Toronto police to resolve this situation. This is an active police investigation and we are not able to share more information at this time.
All of our systems are operational and service continues to be available via online banking at meridiancu.ca, telephone banking and ATMs. Our Contact Centre can be reached at 1-866-592-2226.
We fully anticipate that we will resume full business operations tomorrow. We thank our Members in advance for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused.”
